Clothing Alterations

A wide range of alterations can been performed to make garments fit perfectly, no need to accept how the clothing manufacturers think we should be shaped. The most common alterations are shortenings, also very common are alterations to waists and hips and sleeves, whether it be jackets, dresses, skirts, trousers, shirts, or anything else you would be surprised at what we can achieve.

Our standard service turn-around is two days, however we do offer a "while-you-wait" service on trouser and jean shortenings. We also offer a "same-day" or "next-day" service. Please note that additional surcharges may apply for a non-standard turn-around service.

Garment Remodelling

As fashions and styles change and garments that were last seasons HOT numbers are relegated to the What's Not side of the wardrobe - do not despair. More often than not the garments and outfits in question can be remodelled to stay up to date and look as if they were bought only yesterday.

The most common remodelling is performed on jackets and the classic revamp would be taking an older boxy style jacket, that you now think makes you look like a gridiron player and making it a stylish more fitting style of jacket. Another common remodelling involves skirts and/or dresses, by changing the lengths and fine-tuning the shaping the look of the garment can be remodelled for dramatic results.

Leather and Suede

Leather and Suede as well as some other very heavy types of materials require specialist knowledge and equipment. We are able to undertake most alterations to leather and suede garments.

Corporate & Groups

Over the years we have provided special services for many groups, including sports and corporate groups. For group situations we can provide an on-site fitting service and if required a very rapid turn-around. We have also provided on-site fitting and rapid turn around for a number of visiting international sports teams, and no we have not influenced any sporting outcomes, however, with some strategically placed pins I am sure we could have an influence. If you would like further information regarding Corporate or Group fittings please contact Richard on the numbers below or e-mail on the following address corporate@roses.co.nz.

Fine & Invisible Mends (Re-Weaving)

When the unfortunate occurs and a garment is torn, ripped or damaged. Often the immediate thought is that the garment is relegated to that of an "around the house" or "gardening" type of garment. If the garment was originally an expensive item, is a favourite or is part of a suit or outfit then mending is often a very practical alternative. We can provide three methods of repair, firstly a machine repair that will prevent the damage from spreading, however the result is normally very obvious and not suited to "Sunday best". The two other options are fine mending and invisible mending. As the name suggests fine mending is just that and depending on the type of fabric and location of the damage is often a very satisfactory method of repair. Invisible mending is the most intricate method of repair, and involves threads being pulled from seam allowances, hems or the like and then re-weaving the damaged part of the fabric, please be aware that the invisibility of these methods of repair depend on a number of factors including the type of fabric, the age of the fabric, the type of weave and the particular damage that is being repaired.

The costs and time associated with both fine mending and invisible mending mean that in both cases work is typically not undertaken until the job is quoted. We will also do our best to give an indication of how successful the different methods of repair will be, however given the nature of the work we cannot always be sure of the success prior to starting the process.

In the unfortunate situation that there is no satisfactory method of repair then we are happy to forward an insurance quote to facilitate a claim to be made on your personal home and contents insurance.

While-You-Wait Service

For trouser and jeans shortening we provide a while-you-wait service. This service, dependant on the individual job and the workload at the time typically take between 10 and 30 minutes to complete. During your wait you are welcome to a complimentary coffee, tea or hot chocolate and to peruse the latest magazines that we offer for your reading pleasure in our reception.

Knitwear Repairs

We are now able to offer an amazing repair service for knitwear - the garments are actually re-knitted in a process similar to invisible mending. So don't let a hole or tear in a knitted garment make you think the garment can no longer look its best. We are always happy to offer quotes before any jobs are started.
